A gift to United Way helps to ensure a social safety net of critical supports and services is available in Waterloo Region each and every day. During times of stability and those of crisis.

Please consider a monthly donation so that, together, we can help our community respond, recover, rebuild, and reimagine for the long term.

Steps to Complete Your Gift:

  1. Browse below to choose which fund(s) or charities you would like to invest in. 
  2. Click the Monthly amount you wish to give OR enter a One-Time gift in the "Amount" box provided. The items you choose will then appear in your Cart at the top right of your screen.
  3. Click "View Cart" (Menu on mobile devices) at the top right of your screen once you are ready to proceed to the Shopping Cart Review screen.
  4. Review the item(s) in your cart. When you are ready to proceed, click "Checkout".
  5. Select your method of payment and indicate your gift preferences, e.g. gift in honour of a special person/teacher, or in memory of someone else. Click "Continue" to complete your gift.

Poverty is the root cause of chronic loneliness, isolation, and feelings of disconnect. Your gift will be directed to programs and services that improve access to supports and create strong, cohesive neighbourhoods that help people in times of need. Examples include: referral services, senior's supports, neighbourhood led activities, and leadership development.

Improving Mental Health Fund

You can help people, young and old, improve coping skills, increase self-esteem and set meaningful goals for the future. Your gift will be directed to programs and services that provide mental health supports, emergency support in times of distress, and help build resiliency. Examples include: therapeutic counselling, harm reduction and mentorship services.

You can help people in this community access basic and essential needs that many of us take for granted. Whether in need of a place to stay safe and warm, a meal to fill a tummy, training to access employment, or translation to attend personal appointments, everyone in this community deserves support. United Way WRC supported programs are there to help.

Addressing Addiction Fund

We have seen a dramatic increase in opioid use in Waterloo Region. Not only does opioid use affect the person struggling with addiction, it profoundly impacts their families--worries for the person experiencing the addiction, financial impact of the addiction, and the absence of that person in relationships. Your gift will be directed to programs and services that help people cope with and recover from addictions. Examples include: addictions counselling and referral, opioid education, and harm reduction and prevention strategies.

COVID Community Response Fund

The pandemic is a difficult time for everyone and those who are already marginalized in our community are disproportionately impacted. You can support the work of front-line organizations that are collectively striving to ensure our most vulnerable citizens are safe and healthy. Your gift will be directed to programs and services that address urgent and emerging community needs in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Examples include, but are not limited to: urgent access to shelter, food, and crisis related supports.

General Community Fund

Can’t decide which fund to give to? Consider giving to our General Community Fund where you can help find local solutions to local social issues. Your gift will be directed across Waterloo Region to agencies working tirelessly in the areas of mental health, food security, and social isolation. Examples include: supports for those at-risk of homelessness, access to food, literacy and training, crisis supports, information referral, collaborative networks, and so much more.

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region

In Waterloo Region, 36% of those helped by the Food Bank are under the age of 18. The Community Food Assistance Network is a system of 100+ community programs and agency partners, providing food and connection to other vital supports needed by children, seniors, families and individuals–every day. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank are at the center of this Network, actively sourcing fresh, frozen and non-perishable food for distribution.

OK2BEME

OK2BME is a set of free, supportive services for LGBTQ2+ identified children, teens and their families in Waterloo Region. The OK2BME program consists of three unique areas including confidential counselling services (in person, or online), OK2BME Youth Groups for individuals 12-18, as well as public education, consulting and training around LGBTQ2+ issues.

Jack.org

Jack.org is Canada's only charity training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health in every province and territory. Through Do Something, Jack Talks, Jack Chapters, and Jack Summits, young leaders identify and dismantle barriers to positive mental health in their communities. And through ambitious innovations in youth mental health like Be There, they give people the mental health resources they need to educate themselves.

Dreams Take Flight

Dreams Take Flight is a national charity that takes wonderful children to Disney for a day. Allianz Global Assistance has sponsored the travel insurance for the past 10 years to ensure everyone has a worry-free experience. For a very long and exciting trip, children can get away from their everyday and live an adventure in a world-renowned theme park in California or Florida. All expenses are paid — thanks to sponsors and volunteers. When they land back home, their minds are stretched to new dimensions and they see new possibilities.

While we consider United Way to be the most effective way to give to the local community, we also support specific charities of your choosing. Please use the form below to indicate your selected charity. Gifts require a minimum donation of $100/charity and a $12/charity administration fee in order to be processed. This allows United Way to manage and distribute donations in a timely basis to the selected charities.
